Self-esteem is a complicated topic when growing up. Kids seem to have boundless confidence like superheroes, but as they get older, that can quickly fade. So how do we tackle this with a simple dance class? Dance can teach us many things, and one of them is to learn how to control our own body’s movement.

Confidence is a lengthy process but learning to appreciate the skin we were born with is a good place to begin. Self determination will also come with taking a dance class, as they will see how far they’ve advanced with weekly practice. When they see their skills evolving, that is pure motivation to keep going, and further sharpen their skills.

There are certainly physical benefits to dance as well. Dance is of course, a sport so the body will adapt to the movement, and the muscles will strengthen over time. Flexibility is something that dance teachers will enforce as well, as daily stretches will help with developing muscle. It is a well-known fact that children need to be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day to help them develop a strong heart, and dancing is no exception when it comes to cardiovascular health.
