LATIN / RHYTHM
Called the LATIN OR RHYTHM DANCES of ballroom because of the upbeat rhythms and hip or Cuban motion, these dances mostly originated from Central and South America. They are fun, flirty, energetic and allow for much freedom of expression and flair and can be danced to many of today’s popular songs.
These are the Latin dances we teach at Blueheel Studio:
RUMBA
For some, the most romantic of the Latin dances, Rumba, originated in the 1920’s as an American adaptation of the son cubano. It involves a lot of hip movements and foot action.
CHA CHA
A slower alternative to Mambo, Cha Cha is a flirtatious dance, with a catch-me-if you-can attitude between partners.
SAMBA
A lively rhythm, originated in Brazil an introduced in America in the 1940’s, ballroom samba is dances with a distinctive bounce.
PASO DOBLE
Recreating a bullfight, where the lead is the matador and the follow can either be the bull, the cape or the matador, this Spanish-originated dance it’s very choreographed, that is why it’s most usual in competitions and not social dancing.
